DEMOCRACY THE SOLUTION FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT STATES IN THE WORLD?
The literal meaning of the word “Democracy” can be put down in to a simple phrase that is “For the People, by the People” which states that it is a form of government which is formed and run by the people who are being ruled. As you told me to write about any topic and you wanted two pages I thought I would share my views over democracy and how it has been playing a part in my country.
The year is 2009 and the world in the past half a century has advocated that democracy is the final solution for a nation to govern itself. There is also a saying that my college teacher once said that I still seem to remember and that was “ The worst kind of democracy is still better than the best kind of dictatorship”. After experiencing twenty-one years in this world and travelling around to the different countries in the world made me realize that we live in very complex world with different cultures and different people who have a completely different mind-set and views. This really made me question whether or not one form of government would be the solution to running a world which is so vast and so dynamic. The reason I question this system is that there will always be people who have the right to vote and would always vote for personal benefits rather than for the betterment of the country. A similar case I saw while growing up in my country , Pakistan. As far as I remember every time a democratic government was ruling the country it had been too weak to ever find consensus on any issue. There have always been a few major players running this so called Democratic system and the ones which were the top men sitting on the top positions were all the most corrupt people being elected by a system we call democracy . I mean who was I to blame for this mess? Would it be the people who elected the administration or the system of democracy itself . I personally think I would blame both of them but first I would hold the system of democracy responsible. The democratic system gives every body the right to vote which most people think is the basic right of every man but a right like that is not very useful when you give a right to vote to a man who already is a slave under a feudal lord who in fact would be one of the candidates in the election. The man would vote for his feudal lord and in return would get nothing he would live the same life as his ancestors did live and serve the feudal lord and work on this farmland. I believe this is a big inefficiency In the democratic system of the third world countries where votes are bought off or given to show loyalty to their feudal lord. In return the feudal gives nothing back no roads, no school, no healthcare and no other basic civil facility. On the other hand I would also say that there should be a criteria on who could vote and who cannot. A man who does not even know what country he lives in is given the right to vote and would always do what he’s told to do or be easily bought off. The religion of Islam also practiced its kind of democracy but it was slightly different. In that no every body had the right to vote. Only those people who were thought to be qualified or of a certain age were allowed to vote.

In 2001 the country was taken over by the Army General Pervaiz took over the country. That was my first experience of a military ruler ruling the country. I could clearly see the difference on how a military man had brought upon on a bunch of looting politicians. All branches of the government started working smoothly the economy rebounded. If some thing was said to be done it was actually acted upon and action was taken. When he was ruling the country it was clear on who was in control and who made the decisions. Later in 2008 when he was impeached by a democratic government the same sloppy behavior reoccurred mass looting of the public wealth with no accountability. No body knows who is in control with conflicting statements being made by the people in the same party. I would really like to question on whether or not democracy is the answer for countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and many more. I look at China as a strictly socialist society and to me I think its functioning well. I think it is a perfect example of society that is being used efficiently with resources being applied to areas where they will bring benefit to society. This paper is filled my own views and they do not represent that of my people or the community that I belong to I may be wrong and many people will disagree with me but in a country where “Might is Right” I personally believe there is one great figure needed so to bring the country back on track.
